So far I have never commented on politics but this past week or so has really taken the biscuit. I am talking about our MP’s expenses scandal. These MP’s – aka Honourable Members of Parliament – really! Have been creaming off the tax-payers money to pay for such trivialities as draining the moat of their castle, cleaning their chandeliers, paying for gardeners, cleaners, light bulbs & even horse manure & of course paying off mortgages & claiming on non-existent mortgages. How can these people run our country and pass the laws of the land? Worse, they then justify their miserable claims, by acting within the Rules, and who made these Rules…? Who are these people accountable to? The culmination of this sordid state of affairs came about yesterday when the Speaker of the House of Commons was forced to resign. The first time in 300 years that this has happened to the holder of this ancient office & apparently he got off lightly as previous Speakers were beheaded. Today I read in the paper that he is to be rewarded with not only a huge (£77,000) pension but also a peerage.
